These changes should be in the 2.50 branch so a Debian package built from
CVS will have the correct version number and the benefit of the other
fixes and changes.

Great, I'll commit it tomorrow after people have had the required time
to review.  If there are any other changes for Debian that should go
on the 2.50 branch, can you create another bug for them and post a patch?
