SA Bugzilla – Bug 542
ignore trailing ads added by free email services
Last modified: 2003-05-11 09:24:08 UTC
Advertisements that get appended to the bottom of messages by free email and mailing list services should be ignored during body testing. This should be pretty easy to work out, but I need people to attach some samples (5 per service should be enough, and please use separate attachments for each service, thanks).
Created attachment 216 [details] Sample of Topica mailing list mail
Attached is a mailbox file with three Topica messages. (no point in doing more since all of my messages are from the same mailing list.) Topica has two ad formats: 1. 4-line ads that begin and end with a long line of ===== symbols and have a click.topica.com URL on the last line. (Only on newsletter lists, I think) 2. The footer at the end of each message, which has a ==^=== line at beginning and end.
assigning back to SAdev, I haven't had a chance to work on this
This is going to be too easily abused, unless we write specific tests for each free e-mail provider, I think. We could then put these into a meta test. But the real FPs these days aren't hotmail messages written in all caps with the occasional swear word, the real FPs are business opt-in mailing lists.

I don't think we really need or want to do this now: - too easily abused - better alternatives (whitelists, bondedsender, habeas, hashcash, etc.) - hard to maintain
