>Apache POI includes a pre-defined Eclipse project file which can be used to quickly get set up in the Eclipse IDE. > >First make sure that the location of javac.exe is in your shell's path. > >Next, open Eclipse and create either a local SVN repository, or a copy of the Git repository. > >Then build Apache POI using Ant as described above to get all required 3rd party libraries downloaded. This is best done from the command line: > >1) Open a command prompt and change to the directory containing "build.xml". >2) Type the command "ant clean, assemble". > >Then import the project in Eclipse via File->Import->Existing Projects into Workspace. > >You may also download the POI Project into Eclipse using Git or SVN, then import it into the workspace, and then build the project using Ant. You can build using a command prompt as listed above, or by the following: > >1) In Eclipse, right-click on build.xml, and select the command "Run As / Ant build...". >2) The Edit Configuration dialog should open. Select the "Targets" tab, then select the "assemble" target. If the "assemble" target is not listed, then clear the "Hide internal targets..." checkbox. >3) Click on "Run". > >If this procedure fails, try either or both of the following: > >1) Run the "Clean" target, then the "Assemble" target. >2) Run Ant from the command line as described above. > >Note: when executing junit tests from within Eclipse, you might need to set the system property "POI.testdata.path" to the actual location of the 'test-data' directory to make the test framework find the required test-files. A simple value of 'test-data' usually works.
