Description Steve Hay 2007-02-14 06:08:41 UTC
I've installed the binary build of Apache HTTP Server 1.3.37
(apache_1.3.37-win32-x86-no_src.msi) on Windows Vista (version 6.0.6000).

The "Apache" service is installed OK and the "httpd.conf" file is configured
with appropriate settings, but when I try to start the service I get error 1067
from the service control manager: "The process was terminated unexpectedly."

The apache.exe process runs fine if I just run "apache.exe" from a Command Prompt.

I get much the same result using Apache HTTP Server 2.2.4.

(Btw, neither Version "1.3.37" nor OS "Windows Vista" were in the lists of
options on the bug entry page, so I've selected "HEAD" and "other" respectively.)

1.3 support is effectively DOA on windows, as it wasn't a naturally threaded
application. Apache 2.0 was designed for threads from the ground up, so it's
the earliest version for Windows, Netware, OS2 that is actively maintained.
