The proxy transformer imposes a massive performance overhead when the page
contains many links (e.g., with a large sitetree). I guess this is at least
partly caused by the policy resolving to determine the SSL protection.

i.e. is there anything that can be done about it in a hurry? i don't think so...

IIRC this has been resolved by replacing the SSL link generation with the
SslRedirectAction. But I have to do some profiling first.
