JMeter can only currently be ran as a program. It would be great if you could create a distribution that was also only a library.

This would help out, for instance, the JMeter Maven Plugin:
https://github.com/Ronnie76er/jmeter-maven-plugin

The jmeter maven plugin currently uses a jar compiled without the main to get access to the functionality of jmeter.
