The file become modified (last modified time is changed).

This is expected with the way POI handles the data currently. 

We provide ways to open the file read-only, e.g. via WorkbookFactory.create(OPCPackage.open(File file, PackageAccess.READ)) or new XSSFWorkbook(OPCPackage.open(File file, PackageAccess.READ)).
