Description Lark Fitzgerald 2007-04-25 21:42:41 UTC
Has anyone else noticed how large the visual web pack is on XP for 5.5 & 5.5.1?

Go to Control Panel > Add Remove programs
Locate the Netbeans 5.5 (orage icons) - these are ok
Now locate the Visual web (glue/green icons) - these are huge.

I have a visualweb 5.5 and 5.5.1 pack installed and they are both showing at
4GB (image attached). Sherry has one that shows as 2GB. Joanne has a 1 & 3GB
so the size seems to be random.

I only noticed this because I keep uninstalling NB6 (which shows correctly)

For me,

VW 5.5 Install 061127_6 shows as 4,125.00MB
Explorer shows it as using 71.3 MB (74,825,728 bytes)

VW 5.5.1 Install 070321_1 shows as 4,020.00MB
Explorer shows it as using 63.8 MB (66,912,256 bytes)

P1 ???
actual disk space is 220 or so MB

btw, for 6.0, the size looks accurate
Comment 5 Lark Fitzgerald 2007-04-25 22:46:35 UTC
This IS a 5.5.1 bug ONLY. A new RC candidate will need to be created.

Why is this a P1? Although the data there is incorrect, I don't agree this
deserves to be a P1 or a showstopper. What's the impact for this issue? You
still can uninstall successfully, can't you? How many people pay attention to
this or care whether it's accurate or not? The fact is that we shipped 5.5 or
even Crator with this issue.

Technically, the size shown in the Add/Remove Program window is generated by the
Windows OS dynamically based on the uninstall registry key that is provided by
the installer. The installer uses the InstallShield API to register this with
the OS and it then shows up in the Add & Remove Program window. There is not
much that we can do about this issue.

Hence, I'm closing this as will not fix.

Marking this for release notes since it will not be fixed. Machines without
space to compensate for this issue should not be used.
