Description ulfzibis 2009-04-07 14:38:08 UTC
[ JDK VERSION : 1.6.* ]

When filing an issue, I often like to refer to a mail in the netCAT
mailing list. It's pretty annoying to browse through the web portal
to find it.

So it would be comfortable, to have the regarding link in the mailing
list email content.
Comment 1 Filip Zamboj 2009-04-17 18:30:20 UTC
Hi Ulf!

Are we talking about something specific here or it's in general? Thanks.

Marking as incomplete until reporter answers.
Comment 2 ulfzibis 2009-04-18 15:21:14 UTC
I'm talking about a general feature which would make referring to a particular post from the list more comfortable.
Comment 3 Filip Zamboj 2009-04-20 12:05:04 UTC
Yep, ok now it's clear ... interesting idea, actually. I guess this belongs to bugtracking.
Comment 4 Jiri Kovalsky 2009-10-15 12:06:56 UTC
No, according to recent discussion [1], Ulf means URLs to e-mails themselves in the web archive. Reassigning to "www"
component. Maybe this feature will be available after the migration to our new infrastructure scheduled for 10/21 - 10/25.

Comment 5 Marian Mirilovic 2009-11-08 02:39:01 UTC
We recently moved out from Collabnet's infrastructure
Comment 6 Michel Graciano 2009-11-08 09:31:43 UTC
Why this is INVALID? IMHO this should just have the product/component changed.

Example for archive link

Here an example, how it looks on TortoiseSVN mailing list.
BTW, they are too using Collabnet Software. :

This must be evaluated by kenai team.
Comment 9 Jiri Kovalsky 2010-03-15 13:02:08 UTC
Lea, any update on this? It's a repeating topic since NetCAT 6.7, 6.8 and now discussed also on NetCAT 6.9. Thanks!
Comment 10 Marco Walther 2010-03-15 16:51:19 UTC
Actually, all mailing list admins within the netbeans.org domain could add their own footer with that info.

We could try to add a X-Archive header to each message but I don't know if people would actually see/use that.

Please let me know.
Comment 11 Jiri Kovalsky 2010-03-15 19:36:23 UTC
Thanks Marco for your update but how can I include a dynamic link in the footer? Is there any documentation for that? I understand I can have a static text there but this issue is about dynamic URLs.
Comment 12 Marco Walther 2010-03-16 06:33:53 UTC
Unfortunately, a dynamic link to a specific message in the archive is currently NOT possible.

The problem is, that messages are archived in a independent process, which might even be slower (lesser priority) that the sending of the messages to users. So when the messages go out, the final spot in the archive is not known yet:-(

Changing that would require a large amount of work within sympa:-( So unless the underlaying sympa changes it's inner workings and we have the time to upgrade, I don't have a lot of hope for this:-(

Sorry:-(

OK, thanks for your kind answer. Let's have this RFE open then.

I am sorry but how was this bug fixed? I don't see any links to web archive in e-mails. :(

I think, each mail has it's own ID.
So maybe there could be generated a link in the email footer, constructed from/containing this ID.
If the mail becomes archived later, a redirection from the footer link to the final archive link could be provided.
And last, what about asking the TSVN people, how they managed this feature?
