Original status: 5-Cause Known; Suggested Status: NEW Original Target Release: mako_dev; Suggested Target Milestone : Dev These items should be added to the Keywords: USABILITY Description: Creating or modifying queries into DB tables was very difficult for all test participants. None did it without help. One reason is that users basically had no idea where the query is defined. A few assumed it would be defined in Java code by an event-handler and then passed to a database. When told that the query had to be attached to a database table, participants had difficulty figuring out how to get to the SQL code editor, and in figuring out how to edit the code once they'd found (or been led to) it. Five of the nine test participants got to the window for editing the query, and all but one of them had to be led there. xxx@xxxx 2004-07-12 xxx@xxxx 2004-07-12 Evaluation: Need more detailed specification from HIE. xxx@xxxx 2004-11-11 05:26:37 GMT Evaluation (Entry 2): For Sun Java Studio Creator 2, there's a new quickly added "add data provider" button on the binding dialog that brings up a dialog allowing one to create a new DP. For the future release, we should design a proper solution. Suggested Fix: Add a wizard for binding databases to components. Supply templates for likely situations. I would like to see an action from the Data menu that would bring up a dialog that walks users through the steps of binding a database table to a component and specifying a query. I imagine it could work like the Mail Merge dialog in Microsoft Word. xxx@xxxx 2004-07-12 xxx@xxxx 2004-07-12 The suggested fix needs to be implemented may be in components.
