Description emi 2007-08-21 12:31:29 UTC
The editor/demosrc/ contains a standalone example that doesn't compile for 6.0 M10.

Filing this under documentation as it seems the best subcomponent in the list.

While unfortunate I doubt that this is a priority at the moment. In fact using Netbeans editor as a standalone swing
application has always been a nice side effect of the way how things were organized in the editor modules. Given the
amount of changes done for Nb6 we will have to review this setup. It should still be possible to run Nb editor as a
standalone app, but the list of things that need to be done for particular features to work will be different. At the
moment there has been no effort to make this work again, sorry.

Any help is more than welcome of course ;-). Thanks for understanding.
Comment 2 emi 2007-08-21 17:13:37 UTC
This is actually an unfortunate regression.

You should probably also change the architecture docs:

"The editor library module provides subset of editor functionality independent on the NetBeans IDE (except few specific
standalone classes)."

and point out that it doesn't work anymore.

NetBeans was always good at maintaining backwards compatibity. It's sad that such a nice feature (standalone editor) is
dead now.

Resolving all issues with milestone "future" as LATER. If you feel strongly that
it should be implemented please reopen and set the target milestone to "next".
Comment 4 Geertjan Wielenga 2009-09-21 09:40:13 UTC
I felt strongly and so, as instructed above, reopened and set to "Next". Also changed it to a P3, since as Emilian
points out, this impacts our famous backward compatibility.
Comment 5 Irina Filippova 2010-02-17 09:54:02 UTC
Assigning to another component. The usersguide module is used for issues on NetBeans documentation (javahelp, tutorials)
Comment 6 David Strupl 2010-10-05 07:19:38 UTC
I am sorry but standalone editor is not a priority for us --> P4.
Comment 7 Martin Balin 2016-07-07 07:31:14 UTC
This old bug may not be relevant anymore. If you can still reproduce it in 8.2 development builds please reopen this issue.
