On NetBeans with Nimbus L&F

2, Create a new file
3, Select its tab in the editor window

The filename (written in green) is hard to read on the dark background of the tab
(see screenshot)

Editor Tab with Nimbus LaF
Comment 2 Vitezslav Stejskal 2008-10-20 13:00:56 UTC
Somewhere between VCS and core/winsys folks...
Comment 3 Maros Sandor 2008-10-20 13:05:12 UTC
We had a similar problem in Explorer views before (Projects, FIles, etc.), it was fixed in core or openide. Please evaluate.
Comment 4 Petr Chytil 2008-10-20 13:19:26 UTC
It's not only when version controlled file is opened. All active document and window tabs have black text color on dark
blue background. Nimbus default colors for active (pressed) tab are white text on dark blue background. Why not use this
and select also some appropriate colors for tabs with opened version controlled files.
Ondro, what do you think about it?
Comment 5 Petr Chytil 2008-10-20 13:27:56 UTC
Sorry for last comment, there is already filled enhancement for tabs on nimbus as issue 132334. Changing this issues's
summary to reflect differences between these two issues.
Comment 6 Ondrej Langr 2008-10-20 20:09:03 UTC
IMO, the main problem lies in the color of a wrong state being used. (see
https://nimbus.dev.java.net/spec/images/JTabbedPane-Regular.png for all tab states in nimbus). Instead of "Selected" the
"Selected + Pressed" color is used which renders darker texts unreadable.
Comment 7 Petr Chytil 2008-10-21 09:57:25 UTC
That's surely true. But NetBeans uses three states of these tabs - not selected, selected, selected in active window
area. This is our way to inform user, where the focus is. I'm afraid, that Nimbus UI specification doesn't cover such
case. There are too many tabs displayed at once on the screen to make do with two states.
Comment 8 Ondrej Langr 2008-10-21 11:48:23 UTC
I see. Then the only solution I can suggest is to alter this color to brighter green whenever displayed on
active+pressed tab (only for Nimbus!). Such new color could be e.g. #00EA00, see the attached image for preview.

I assume there will be similar problems with other colors used for signaling the state of the file, but unfortunately,
there is no general advice applying to all, what works for green (new files), does not work for blue (modified files).
