Description Erno Mononen 2009-03-02 13:25:55 UTC
The ergonomics stuff hides the new button for self profiling. Steps:

1. install the full IDE
2. create a Ruby app
3. enable the memory widget => no profile me now button

Profile me button is provided by Java Profiler. You need to enable it first.

I know it is provided by the Java Profiler plugin. The point is that the feature is not discoverable: the user who
originally reported this in a private email to me spent considerable time searching for it (he had even read the new
and noteworthy page and downloaded the full IDE) with no success. I wouldn't have found it either if I didn't have a
gut feeling that it's ergonomics hiding it (which you can't expect from all users).

I've updated the wiki:

Enough?

Well.. it will help the users who RTFM and read NB wiki pages. I still think hiding features like this is a usability
problem. If you download a full distribution of some application, wouldn't you expect to have all the features it
offers available in the menus and toolbars without having to first enable something (and you wouldn't know what
exactly) in some not-necessarily-so-obvious place?
