Agree. What we could do is to expose the most common tools like make and the C and C++ compilers directly in the dialog and have a "More Tools" or "All Tools" button that takes you to a dialog 
with the full set. qmake should still be required to build QT projects and have the behavior I described below.

I will file a bug and we can discuss it further in the bug report.

 It should be better integrated with QT projects though. It should be integrated with QT projects in a similar fashion compilers already are integrate with all projects. If a compiler is required by a 
project and it is not available (wrong path or missing), the validation version of this dialog pops up when you attempt to build the project and 1) makes it very clear to user what is wrong, and 2) 
allows the user to fix the problem. Try to invalidate the path to the C and C++ compiler and try to build something and you will see. In a similar fashion QT projects should require qmake to be valid 
to build the project and pop up the validation dialog if it is not.

The dialog doesn't belong to poject. It is in core and worls independent on projects.
