While experienced users can certainly work their way around configuring complex properties using documentation (many users in our recent usability test went right to Google) and code completion, they would appreciate a GUI that lets them quickly configure this stuff declaratively since they don't keep this in their heads.

Yes, that's definitively needed. Also was planned for 7.2 but as I found the implementation of the underlying models as all but not easy we decided to put this off to 7.3.next.
