Description Michel Graciano 2013-06-27 12:17:21 UTC
[ BUILD # : 95354a32ee7e ]
[ JDK VERSION : 1.7.0_21 ]

When I first install and start a new IDE and there is no user dir, I am asked
to import the settings from previous versions. I suggest that if I, as user,
agree to import the settings, the Maven indexes should be imported. The
motivation is that if I don't have a Nexus or other Maven repository server in
the local network, the first indexation is really slow. If you add that are
common to use even more repositories as JBoss, codehaus and so on, it is even

I believe that the indexes should be imported and it will be updated in time,
following the settings in Maven option page.

Product Version: NetBeans IDE Dev (Build 20130626-95354a32ee7e)
Java: 1.7.0_21; Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 23.21-b01
Runtime: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 1.7.0_21-b11

theofanis: we've discussed this in the past, no? what was the result. The indexes need to be copied from the old cache area AFAIK but the import settings api only deals with the old user directory?
Comment 2 Milos Kleint 2013-06-27 13:22:31 UTC
theofanis reminded me that our biggest concern was the size of the the index files. On my computer it's a surprising 1 GB, the central index taking up 840 MB. To copy the indexes would significantly slowdown the "Import from previous version" feature.
Comment 3 misterm 2013-06-27 13:24:39 UTC
Downloading it all again is a few orders of magnitude slower. Maybe an additional question would be worth while importing or it might just work like plugin importing, i.e., a notification once the IDE has started asking whether the previous Maven index should be imported.
Comment 4 Michel Graciano 2013-09-08 16:48:47 UTC
Any chance to consider it for future versions?
Comment 5 Martin Balin 2016-07-07 08:38:29 UTC
This old bug may not be relevant anymore. If you can still reproduce it in 8.2 development builds please reopen this issue.
