Build: NetBeans IDE 7.4 (Build 201310012201) VM: Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM, 24.0-b56, Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment, 1.7.0_40-b43 OS: Windows 7 User Comments: GUEST: start netbeans - nothing more GUEST: file scanning never end & CPU always 100%. GUEST: NetBeans hangs while doing a background scanning of projects. There is only one project in the projects view and it is a Maven-based web app project that was created via NetBeans. lforet: I have a gwt maven project for which classpath background scanning never ending and stop at 97%. It is a project that I can not use in Netbeans GUEST: a GUEST: With an java war projet, background scanning is too long.... after 30min i kill IDE and start netbeas 7.4 beta GUEST: Just open any project. Background scanning will stall at 37%, 50% or 100% and never terminate. It may be that whenver the Netbeans window is given focus, the entire process begins again. Meanwhile, Task manager shows that Netbeans is doing almost no activity (very little CPU and very list Disk I/O) GUEST: Net beans is getting hang while running Background scanning process GUEST: <Please provide a description of the problem or the steps to reproduce> Background scanning of projects is auto on and just stalls at 25% at startup Causes IDE to become slug like to input GUEST: The Scan Background Projects netver finished and got stuck at 75%. The same happened yesterday. GUEST: Just opened netbeans and the background scanning started. Netbeans slowed significantly, waited several minutes but scanning never made any progress, just tied up processes on my cpu. I have cloased several projects already to limit the pages it needs to scan, still the scanning takes a long time and slows everything down. Telling it to stop stop, doesnt stop scan, just becomes unresponsive. I will need to restart netbeans to fix the lockup. This is a common occurance. This is an awesome program with lots of features, but this scanning issue maybe a game killer. Update from yesterday hangs netbeans now completely :( also it seems not possible to launch an older version on mac even after deleting all files it still starts up as 8.0.2
I've opened more than 1/4 of reports and all of them was: org.netbeans.modules.parsing.impl.indexing.ScanCancelledException: Slow scanning in js. If you find any non javascript indexer please create a new issue from it and assign to correct module.
conceptme: Would it be possible to share the project (if it contains javascript) either by attaching here sending privately to my email address? Or could you please share more details about it how big it is (number of files, approx file sizes...)? Thank you
For NetBeans 8.0.2 try to install the latest update. Check for the update via Help -> Check for Update
(In reply to Petr Pisl from comment #8) > For NetBeans 8.0.2 try to install the latest update. Check for the update > via Help -> Check for Update I've tried this. It updated HTML-editor Knockout and after restart it works fine. But I don't use knockout in my project.
Hi I use the latest version but I had the same problem. I had this problem until few minutes ago and it managed to drive me mad for some days. I have just updated the NetBeans + I have tweaked the conf settings and changed the memory settings too. I have set the same amount for the small size and the max size. Try this and the project scanning might finish after all. netbeans_default_options="-J-Xverify:none -J-Xss2m -J-Xms512m -J-Xmx512m -J-XX:PermSize=256m -J-XX:MaxPermSize=256m -J-Dplugin.manager.check.updates=true -J-XX:+UseCompressedOops -J-Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -J-Dsun.java2d.dpiaware=true -J-Dsun.zip.disableMemoryMapping=true" Sincerely, Babak
@bandpay: Could you attach the message.log file? http://wiki.netbeans.org/FaqLogMessagesFile Thanks.
Created attachment 152578 [details] messages.log
@bandpay: According your message.log you have still the old version of javascript editor. So you don't have installed the patch. Please download the latest update. Anyway, how much js files has your project? If there is bunch of files, then it can takes a few minutes to scan all the files.

If there is bunch of files, then > it can takes a few minutes to scan all the files. It is updated and it says that there are no updates available :), and I have experienced that too large heap will slow down the NB in all manners and not just the scanning part.
But I'm telling you guys. This NB hasn't been performing faster than how it is doing now. It has grown wings suddenly and I only see flashes of things while back then "Please wait.." was killing my brain.
@bandpay: The problem is that many reports of the slownest was added after publishing patch for NB 8.0.2 which brings javascript editor with version 0.44.3 (i think) and there was a regression that is fixed in javascript editor that has version 0.44.4. According your message log you have 0.44.2. So definitely is not the last one. We are now trying to be sure that the regression is fixed in 0.44.4. Probably you are not affected by the regression and the reason in your case can be different.
Believe me that I had this problem so much that I bought a new machine and it became slow and problematic until today too. The NB on the new machine was updated to the last version today and 0.44.4 was seen during the update. I have no idea why it is not mentioned in that messages.log.
Created attachment 152580 [details] The messages.log from the unUpdated installation Hi, This is the messages.log from the installation which has JavaScriptEditor 0.44.3
Created attachment 152581 [details] Update dialog box This is the screen shot from the unUpdated installation and you can see that the scanning project is around 50% and it will reach 100% but never stops until the NB becomes none responsive and transparent and more than 1,5 GB of Mem is consumed.
@bandpay: Could you attach a few thread dumps? http://wiki.netbeans.org/GenerateThreadDump It can be helpful. Thanks
This is finally resolved for me, either because I updated Knockout HTML Editor or because the scanning actually finished.
(In reply to Petr Pisl from comment #20) > @bandpay: Could you attach a few thread dumps? > http://wiki.netbeans.org/GenerateThreadDump > It can be helpful. Thanks Hi, The instruction is not good enough :). I cant produce the dump, even that the console window is open. Is there a command I have to run or some buttons I should click on? Thanks, Babak
Created attachment 152604 [details] SnapShot of the Updated NB Hi, This is the snapshot of the updated NB which does not indicate that it was updated in it's messages.log. Have a nice weekend, Babak
