This bug was originally marked as duplicate of bug 187337, that is already resolved. This bug is still valid, so this seems to be another bug, but it might be related.

Build: NetBeans IDE 8.0.2 (Build 201411181905)
VM: Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM, 25.5-b02, Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment, 1.8.0_05-b13
OS: Windows 7

GUEST: I was worked on my projects, then NetBeans started lagging and writing 1 char took more than 10 seconds. Other applications on my computer worked well, so only NetBeans had a problem. It was not the first time. Thanks for help ! :)

The whole time in AWT is spent in sun.awt.Win32GraphicsDevice.isPixFmtSupported[native]()
