I work on multiple projects extensively and use this feature:

Options
- Appearance
- - Document Tabs
- - - Same background color for files from same project

Sometimes this feature works but most of the time it has the following issue:

The "random" colors that the IDE selects are most often so close that it is very difficult to tell them apart. The tab colors need to made to be contrasting each other for each project so that they can be easily identified.
