I had to open an old NetBeans project which needs source/binary format 1.4 and this failed in NetBeans 8.2 which forced me to downgrade to 8.1 where this still works fine. The suggested action in 8.2 under "Resolve Project Problems" is "Upgrade the project source/binary format to the minimal supported one (1.6)" which is not acceptable for me becaue it is a library which is used in an ancient JVM. I think that NetBeans 8.2 should support better backward compatibility in this case.
