Test test directory structure currently is very rigid. It is impossible to specify from the configurable XML layer the location of the test source if the location is different from the predetermined location, or test source resides at multiple locations.
Because the current layout of tests is hard coded thorough XTest, I'm afraid this cannot be easily fixed in the current XTest. This could be probably done in XTest 2 (but still there would have to exist some rules about the test's directory structure), where most of the code written in Ant should be rewritten in Java. It is also hard to tell how much time would this fix take, but I'm afraid that a lot and it's not worth doing it the current version.
