Description _ gtzabari 2004-03-24 18:30:06 UTC
dev build 200403151900
JDK 1.5 beta 1

This seems to be somewhat random. Sometimes
copying in step 2 doesn't work at all.

1) Double click on an entry in the output window
2) Hit CTRL-C to copy
3) Paste into editor
4) Double click on a different entry in the output
5) Hit CTRL-C to copy
6) Paste into editor
7) In step 6, the contents of step 2 will be paste
instead of the contents of step 5

   A workaround is:

5b) hit ALT-TAB to switch to another application,
then switch back to Netbeans
6a) Paste will now work

This sounds like a JDK bug to me. I'm just
running it by you to be sure. Can you please
reproduce it on your end? If its a JDK bug I'd
like to file it with Sun but I'd appreciate some
help coming up with a minimal testcase.
Comment 1 _ gtzabari 2004-03-24 18:39:28 UTC
Actually I changed my mind, this is likely a Netbeans bug, not a JDK
issue. I can copy/paste properly from the editor. This is a
OUTPUT-WINDOW specific issue.
Comment 2 Dusan Balek 2004-03-25 08:49:42 UTC
Seems like the output window copies directly into the system clipboard
while the editor was recently modified to use NbClipboard instead (see
issue 40693).

Reassigning to core for further evaluation.

Setting priority appropriately - P1 is appropriate for the IDE not starting, throwing
exceptions all the time, or silently deleting your work, none of which is happening here. I
will look at it, and if the fix is simple enough, we will do something for 3.6.
Comment 4 _ gtzabari 2004-03-25 14:04:10 UTC

IMO: This is a core functionality. People are going to be
copy/pasting off the output-window all the time. Besides which, this
is a regression and should be fixed for 3.6 final.
Comment 5 isullivan 2004-04-06 23:06:14 UTC
Hi Guys,
I was going to report this's been annoying me for a while.
The last comment says it will be fixed for 3.6 final, which I know
is fast approaching.
Is it going to be fixed for 3.6?
Comment 6 _ tboudreau 2004-04-06 23:10:52 UTC
Possibly in an update release, if not, in 4.0. I have an output window rewrite in progress
which greatly simplifies the code for it, and fixes about 20 accessibility bugs like this.

I must agree that this bug is annoying, I just discovered it, but the
workaround works fine for the moment :)
(I use Nb3.6 RC2, jdk1.4.2, win2000)
Comment 9 isullivan 2004-04-07 19:22:38 UTC
Another work-around is to use the output window's popup menu to copy.
Comment 10 _ gtzabari 2004-04-07 21:10:21 UTC
Ian, Thomas, Tim,

I understand you plan a rewrite in 4.0 but I would like to
reiterate that in my view this is a core functionality of Netbeans
which is going to confuse a lot of users. Can you not also fix it in 3.6?
Comment 11 _ tboudreau 2004-04-19 14:06:04 UTC
Reassigning to Marek, new owner of output window and help system

Given the number of duplicates and votes, it looks like many people
come across this issue and it's really, really annoying. So shouldn't
the priority be upgraded to P2?
Comment 16 mslama 2004-06-22 13:33:56 UTC
For Netbeans there is already new impl of output window where it is
fixed. This issue is just to track problems in terminal emulator.

The core team has not been responsible for terminal emulator for long time, so
reassigne all opened issues to responsible person.
Comment 20 ivan 2010-05-08 06:44:05 UTC
The outptu2 window has definitely fixed these problems.
However we have a new terminal-based output window capability.

I'm marking this as dupof bug #182968 which I"m going to use
as the umbrella bug for keystroke binding issues.
