  • Download and open the testdocument Text_to_Columns.ods

  • Select cell B1

  • Check the Data Menu. Is Text to Columns greyed out (inactive) ? If not file an Issue

  • Select cells B1:B3

  • Check the Data Menu. Is Text to Columns greyed out (inactive) ? If not file an Issue

  • Select cells A1:B3

  • Check the Data Menu. Is Text to Columns greyed out (inactive) ? If not file an Issue

  • Select cells A1, B2 and A4

  • Check the Data Menu. Is Text to Columns greyed out (inactive) ? If not file an Issue

  • Select A1:A5

  • Data - Text to Columns

  • Are the Import Options Character Set and From row greyed out (inactive) ? If not, file an Issue.

  • Select Cell A1

  • Data - Text to Columns

  • Click on Cancel, does it work? If not, file an Issue.

  • Select Cell A1

  • Press the ESC key on the keyboard, does the dialog close? If not, file an Issue

Dot as Separator

  • Make sure that tools-options-StarOffice Calc-General-Input settings-Show overwrite warning when pasting data is tagged.

  • Select A1:A5 on Sheet 'Dot_as_Separator'

  • Data - Text to Columns

  • Untag Tab as separator and tag other. Put a dot into the input field next to the other checkbox

  • Click Ok

  • Does an overwrite warning come up? If not file an Issue.

  • Tag the 'Do not show warning again' checkbox and press Ok. Are the values filled into A1:F5? If not file an Issue.


Comma as Separator

  • Select A1:A5 on Sheet 'Comma_as_Separator'

  • Data - Text to Columns

  • Untag Tab as separator and tag comma.

  • Click Ok

  • Are the values filled into A1:F5? If not file an Issue.


Semicolon as Separator

  • Untag Tab as separator and tag semicolon.

Tab as Separator

  • Select A1:A5 on Sheet 'Tab_as_Separator'

  • Data - Text to Columns

  • Check that Tab is tagged as separator. Remove the double quote from the Text delimiter selection by erasing the field with backspace or del.

  • Click Ok

  • Are the values filled into A1:F5 ? If not file an Issue.


Fixed Width

Status: Preliminary

  • Select A1:A5 on Sheet 'Fixed_Width'

  • Data - Text to Columns

  • Click on the Fixed width Radio Button to enable this feature.

  • Are the other options greyed out (inactive) ? If not, file an Issue.

  • Place the mouse cursor in the ruler bar of the dialog and place it so that you have the selector showing up between the first and the second value. Press the left mouse button.

  • Do this again so you have five fixed width lines placed on the ruler.

  • Click Ok

  • Are the values filled into A1:F5 ? If not file an Issue.


Column Options

Status: Preliminary

  • Select A7 on Sheet 'Column_Options'

  • Data - Text to Columns

  • Select Semicolon as separator and untag Tab.

  • Click on the column header of the second column in the dialog and set the column type to Text.

  • Click on the column header of the third column in the dialog and set the column type to Date (DMY).

  • Click on the column header of the fourth column in the dialog and set the column type to Date (MDY).

  • Click on the column header of the fithed column in the dialog and set the column type to Date (YMD).

  • Click on the column header of the sixed column in the dialog and set the column type to US English.

  • Click on the column header of the seventh ed column in the dialog and set the column type to Hide.

  • Click Ok

  • Does A7 contain the Number 1?

  • Does B7 contain the number 2 with an single quote in front of it making it a text?

  • Does C7:E7 contain the same date with the same formatting?

  • Shows F7 the number 3.14 ?

  • if one of the above conditions does not match, file an Issue.


To make sure we have the default conditions after the test, make sure that Tools-Options-StarOffice Calc-General-Input settings-Show overwrite warning when pasting data is tagged.
