This is the normal behavior of OOo since version 3.0. The handoutView shows
only the template / layout and no content inside.

There are just placeholders shown. It makes no sense to have real previews
visible when you have no way to switch to other slides being visible than the
first set.
Comment 6 Joe Smith 2009-05-09 21:44:40 UTC
It does seem strange though, that when I click on one of the preview objects, it
actually flashes the full color thumbnail image of the slide for a second and
then disappears. The full preview will remain visible as long as I hold the
mouse down on the preview object.

I understand the logic behind not showing the preview, but it seems the
capability is already there, and it could be argued that showing the previews
would be more friendly to the user--not to mention, more familiar to PPT users.

Thanks for the hint, this is really a bug. Reassigned.

Ack! I see now that the transient thumbnail is merely the new drag-preview
feature in OOo 3.1.

For some reason, the preview objects' size, but not their position, is
protected. So they are eligible to be dragged, and when you click on them, the
drag preview is shown.

Я согласен - предварительный просмотр с содержимым это хорошая вещь. Этим
удобно пользоваться.

Sorry for the previous post - do not switch the language.
I agree - a preview of the content is a good thing. This easy to use.

As said before, the handout view just shows template, not a preview of the handout pages. The final handout pages can only be seen when printed.

The only bug may be the flashing slide previews on button down events. Can anybody still reproduce this? I can not.
Comment 17 Joe Smith 2012-08-13 04:19:19 UTC
Just a quick follow-up, testing 3.4 on Fedora 17

1) I don't see the drag-preview effect anymore; I can drag the placeholder outline and change its shape/size but only the empty frame is ever shown.

2) This issue handled partially by the new print preview, which does show the slide content for handouts (or any other layout).

It would be more friendly if the handout template showed the slide content, but there is now at least one way to preview the handouts.
