Description Dotan Cohen 2009-06-23 15:06:40 UTC
When editing a date in Calc, the date format used to edit the date does not
match the date format configured for the cell.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Right-Click on a cell -> Format Cells -> Numbers -> Category -> Date ->
Choose format 31/12/1999
2) Enter into that cell my wedding day: September 2, 2005: 2/9/2005

What is displayed?
February 9, 2005: the day of a car bombing.

What did I expect to be displayed?
September 2, 2005: my wedding day.

I presume that Calc is using the OS's configured locale for entering dates,
alas, this is _not_ the expected behaviour. I expect the OS's configured locale
to be used right up until the point that the user configures a different format.
When that different format is configured, I expect it to be used in all relevant
situations. That means both viewing _and_ editing.

Thanks.

This was tested on Kubuntu 9.04 with OOo 3.1.

jaunty2@laptop:~$ locale
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=
LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=

Note that the point of this bug is that when the user configures a date format
for a cell, it should be used instead of the locale default. So please do not
close this bug on account that OOo is using the locale default. It should not do
that once the user has configured a different date format. Thanks.

This problem has been reported already. Issue 5556 and issue 72229 are
candidates for duplicate. Please decides yourself, which to use.
Comment 3 Dotan Cohen 2009-06-23 20:49:47 UTC
Thanks, Regina, I was certain that I had seen this reported once. I was
searching on the wrong keywords, apparently.
Comment 4 Dotan Cohen 2009-06-23 20:55:56 UTC
I have tried twice to mark as dupe, but it appears that I do not have the
permissions for that (even though I have the interface). Please mark as a dupe
of bug 5556. Thanks.
Comment 5 Regina Henschel 2009-06-23 21:11:28 UTC
set as duplicate to issue 5556
