Description Rainer Bielefeld 2009-08-26 13:20:19 UTC
I found this problem with "Ooo 3.1.0 WIN XP multilingual version German UI
activated [OOO310m11 (Build 9399)]".

Steps to reproduce:

Only for testing
1. download and underpac attached test kit
2. open "sample.odp"
3. <f9> to start Presentation
expected: "MY_tada_new.wav" from same folder should be played with
   first slide
   actual: as expected
4. <space> for next slide
expected: sound "applause" from gallery should be played
actual: only sound if your gallery path is exactly the same like mine
(what is an other problem and might be related to Issue 16937)

Now the bug:
11. start an other CP in your network
12. open "sample.odp" via net (it does not matter whether you use OOo file
dialogue or double click document in WIN Explorer
13. <f9> to start Presentation
expected: "MY_tada_new.wav" from same folder should be played with
   first slide
   actual: NO SOUND
14. <space> for next slide
expected: sound from gallery should be played
actual: only sound if your gallery path is exactly the same like mine
(what is an other problem and might be related to Issue 16937)

Some further information :
It seems that at least sometimes information concerning link to the sounds will
be lost if document will be saved from the network computer. But currently this
is not 100% reproducible for me.

Linked pictures will be shown correctly via network.

I tried on 3 network PC "round robin", problem in step 13 always reproducible,
so NEW

I believe that it is acceptable that there is no possibility to am bed sounds
from gallery. Without that possibility you never can be sure that such a very
simple presentation will be played correctly on an other computer with an other
operation system or an other OOo version. I will check whether we already have a
n Issue for this!

Where is the sound attached in the slide? Is it a slide transition? Object
effect? In the current version of the bugdoc the sound cannot be played because
it is not attached in any way...

@wg
As written in Summary, we only talk about Slide transition effect sounds. I did
not test other sound effects, but you are right, that's necessary, too. I will
do those tests, soon.

I believe you found "MY_tada_new.wav" in the test kit and in 'Task Pane -> Slide
Transition -> Modify Transition - Sound - applause' for "Slide 1", so your
question is concerning sound "applause" for Slide transition "Slide 2"?

My OOo offers that sound in Task Pane 'Slide Transition -> Modify Transition -
Sound - applause'.

It seems that here we have the effect that unavailable linked sounds (sometimes)
will be lost without any hint. May be you will find some hints in the document's
XML sources?

But the reported bug due to summery (... via net ...) only affects
"MY_tada_new.wav" for "Slide 1", the problem with "applause" is causes (also) by
other problems (differend gallery paths(?)).
Comment 4 wolframgarten 2009-08-26 14:20:17 UTC
When opening your sample.odp file none of the slides has a slide transition
applied. You say: open the file and start it. But the sound cannot be played as
long as no slide has a slide transition. Or do I misunderstand something?

@wg:
If you do not hear a sound after you opened "sample.odp" (on your own PC),
selected Slide 1 and pressed <f9>, I can't understand that. May be we can chat
on "#qa.openoffice.org"?
Comment 6 wolframgarten 2009-08-27 08:40:30 UTC
The bugdoc has no slide transitions assigned. To none of the three slides. No
slide transitions -> no sound. Maybe you have attached the wrong document? When
opening the file no slide in the slide pane shows the "slide transition" icon in
the lower left corner.

Ok, reproducible now. Thanks for your further explanations. Still there is the
secret how the sound is attached to the slide..

I tried somethin additional:

1. Opened "sample_new.odp" on Laptop via network
2. checked with <f9> and found sound for Slide 1 broken as reported
3. Used the corresponding function in 'Task Pane -> Modify Transition
-> Sound - Other sound...', browsed for "MY_tada_new.wav" via network on my
Desktop (in same folder as "sample_new.odp") and selected it as sound for
   transition.
4. <f9> to start Presentation
   expected: "MY_tada_new.wav" for Slide 1
   actual: no sound
5. saved and closed "sample_new.odp"

11. Opened "sample_new.odp" directly on DESKTOP from WIN Explorer
14. <f9> to start Presentation
   expected: "MY_tada_new.wav" for Slide 1
   actual: AS EXPECTED
15. saved and closed "sample_new.odp"

20. copied a new sound "My_chimes.wav" to my testkit folder on Desktop.
21. Opened "sample_new.odp" on Laptop via network
22. checked with <f9> and found sound for Slide 1 broken as reported
23. Used the corresponding function in 'Task Pane -> Modify Transition
-> Sound - Other sound...', browsed for "My_chimes.wav" via network on my
Desktop (in same folder as "sample_new.odp") and selected it as sound for
   transition.
24. <f9> to start Presentation
"My_chimes.wav" will not be played as expected from former results
25. saved and closed "sample_new.odp"

Now I did as per 11. ff. and heard "My_chimes.wav".

Further test showed that not only Slide Transition Sounds, but also sounds for
Custom Animation are affected in the same was. So I modified Summary

And a last observation with my "sample_new.odp".
Both sounds still worked after I renamed the folder containing "sample_new.odp".
But when I moved the folder to the root directory of the HDD, only
"MY_tada_new.wav" still worked. Sound for slide 2 was broken, what might be a
completely different issue.

I believe it's critical that sounds do not work reliable if a presentation will
be played via network.
