Description visispace 2009-10-07 19:45:20 UTC
When using the Define Name feature to define an area in an external spreadsheet
the formatting used for the path is incompatible with Excel.

Calc is able to import the reference from Excel, however on reopenning the file
in Excel after saving from Calc, the Name path is corrupted, as far as Excel is
concerned.

In the example below I am using a network path:

Saved in Excel as :
='G:\Reference\[Reference Codes.xls]Project Codes'!$A$7:$B$222

Converted upon opening in Calc to :
'file:///G:/Reference/Reference Codes.xls'#$'Project Codes'.$A$7:$B$222

Result upon returning to Excel :
=#REF!

This is a critical feature in a critical document in my workplace; this
compatibility bug inhibits our conversion to OO.

Thank you kindly.

It's a duplicate. BTW the core functionality is already in place, but disabled,
blocking on ODF TC's file format change approval.

Hi kohei,

I had performed a search on [Summary:define&&names,
Description:excel||interopability||external||sheet] and did not see any of the
prior duplicates or the original.

The thread for issue #3740 does not really specify the Names:Define feature by
name, however I trust that "named spaces" encompasses it, yes?

Thanks!

Names ranges == defined names in this context, so yes.
Comment 5 kyoshida 2009-10-08 13:52:24 UTC
Ah, sorry, I mis-understood this bug report because of the use of "define name".
This has nothing to do with defined names, or range names, but everything to do
with external range reference.

better, more accurate title.
