Currently, it is very hard to visually determine which slide is or is not
selected in the slide pane or the slide sorter. Same applies to visual
appearance in the slide layout or the master pages parts of the task pane. The
visual appearance is just not salient enough in different contexts.

In addition, the elements in the surrounding around each slide in the slide pane
use much screen real estate.

Most of the work is done.  Fixing the remaining bugs.
