I tried replicating the bug using oOo-dev 3.3 on a Windows Vista configuration using the following steps: 1. In OpenOffice Impress, go to Insert > Movie and Sound. 2. Search for a video file (I tested for MPEG and AVI) and click Open to insert the video on to the blank slide. 3. Save the file as an ods file and close it. 4. Reopen the file using OpenOffice Impress. Following the steps above, I could not replicate the bug. However, following the steps below and saving the file as ppt file instead, I was able to replicate the bug using oOo-dev 3.3 on a Windows Vista configuration: 1. In OpenOffice Impress, go to Insert > Movie and Sound. 2. Search for a video file (I tested for MPEG and AVI) and click Open to insert the video on to the blank slide. 3. Save the file as a ppt file using the Save As option. 4. A dialog box should appear. In the dialog box, click the "Keep Current Format" button. 5. Close the file and reopen it using OpenOffice Impress. Following the steps above, after reopening the ppt file on OpenOffice Impress, I'm left with a blank slide with the video file I inserted missing. I also tried to open the same ppt file using Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 to test if doing so gave the same results - and it did: The video file I inserted was missing and I was only left with a blank slide. I also performed the follow up test below to test if OpenOffice could successfully open a ppt file, created with Microsoft PowerPoint 2002, containing a video file: 1. In Microsoft PowerPoint 2002, starting from a blank slide, go to Insert > Movie and Sound > Movie from File. 2. Search for a video file (I tested for MPEG and AVI) and click ok to insert the video on to the blank slide. 3. Save the file (as ppt) and close it. 4. Reopen the file using OpenOffice Impress. After following the steps above, the ppt file with the video file, created using Microsoft PowerPoint 2002, opens successfully. The ppt file was in the same condition as I saved it using PowerPoint and the video file that I inserted was still there. I did some further follow up testing and performed the following steps to test what would happen if I created a ppt file using Impress, contain a video file as well as a couple of other objects (shapes and textboxes), and reopened it using Impress: 1. In OpenOffice Impress, go to Insert > Movie and Sound. 2. Search for a video file (I tested for MPEG and AVI) and click Open to insert the video on to the blank slide. 3. Add a rectangle and a textbox, containing some text, into the same slide the video file was inserted. 4. Save the file as a ppt file using the Save As option. 5. A dialog box should appear. In the dialog box, click the "Keep Current Format" button. 6. Close the file and reopen it using OpenOffice Impress. After reopening the ppt file using Impress, I ended up with a slide with only the textbox; the rectangle and the video had disappeared from the slide. To further test this behavior, I also opened the ppt file using PowerPoint. Interesting enough, everything, except for the video, remained in the slide. I followed these steps on a Windows XP SP3 machine. Version of OOo-dev 3.3.0 DEV300m78 (Build:9501) Launch OOo-dev. Click on Presentation. Presentation Wizard: 1. Type: Empty Presentation. Click on Next>> button. 2. Select a slide design : Presentation Backgrounds > <Original>. Click on Next button>> . 3. Click on Create button. Insert(menu) > Movie and Sound. I selected a .mp3 file and clicked on Open. File > Save as .ppt Click on 'Keep Current Format' button in the popup. Click on the Play button. The video plays in the file saved in .ppt format. Close OOo-dev and open the .ppt file. I opened in Powerpoint 2007 and the slide is blank. Additional Notes: ----------------- On opening a .ppt file and .pptx file with sound files in OOo-dev, the speaker icon is displayed. On selecting the icon, "Bitmap with transparency 'FileName.mp3' selected" is displayed. On opening the .ppt and .pptx file in Powerpoint 2007, double clicking on the speaker icon plays the sound file. The issue is REPRODUCIBLE with OOo-dev 3.3.0 DEV300m78 (Build:9501) on Windows XP SP3 machine. I don't see a .ods format to save in OOo-dev 3.3.0 DEV300m78 (Build:9501) on Windows XP SP3 machine. Reproducible when saving as ppt. Changing summary, reassigning. I am also seeing this. I'm running Windows 7 SP1 and OpenOffice 4.0.1. "About OpenOffice" also shows this text: "AOO401m5(Build:9714) - Rev. 1524958 2013-09-20 11:40:29 (Fr, 20 Sep 2013)". Maybe that's of use? Anyway, I ran into this bug when trying to compose a presentation. caseytbbuedu described it perfectly. It shows up when saving as .ppt, but not when saving as .odp. It's been nearly four years since this bug was reported, and it's a major issue. With this bug, OO might as well not have video support at all. I don't know how this site works, but please fix soon. *** Issue 90272 has been marked as a duplicate of this issue. *** |
