I have XLS-file with merged cell. This file was created by some application.
OppenOffice.Calc hang when trying to open this XLS-file. In Microsoft Excel it's
ok. If I re-save this file using Microsoft Excel, it is opened fine in OpenOffice.
In previous versions (for example 3.1.1) such XLS-files were opened without
problems.

I am able to open this document in Apache OpenOffice 3.4.1. No hang. But the sheet appears to be empty.

Is this what I should be seeing? Or is data missing now?

I need more info to continue with this report.

That file has just 4 cells filled with data:
----------------------
| Num Col | "Str Col"|
|--------------------|
| 1 | Hello!|
| | Test this|
----------------------

I've tried again, it is perfectly opened on Microsoft Excel 2003.

Merged cell sample that does load correctly in AOO

Example file created in MS Office 2010. Cell A1 and A2 merge, containing string "test". It opens correctly in AOO 3.4.1.

OK. So I can confirm that your test file does not open correctly in AOO 3.4.1. The data is lost.

But I also see, via the test file that I attached, that merged cells are supported via import in AOO 3.4.1. So something is going on here more complicated than just the merged cells.

Same file opened in LibreOfficee

This is how this file should look like. It opens like that in LibreOffice.
