Could you attach a file that cannot be opened in PPT? Same problem reported during QA test. Attached file does not open in MSO-2010 although PPT-viewer 2007 opens it without problem on XP. Created attachment 75229 [details]
this file does not open in MS-2007
Sorry, no test with MSO-2010. The file does not open in MSO-2007 under Win7. No problems under PPT 2003 and PPT 2007 under XP. File opens up. My tests with PPT-viewer under XP works well too. And under MS-Windows-Seven ? I'm running 3.2.1 on Windows XP Pro and I have the same problem when I save as a *.ppt file. Power Point 2003 declares that the file is missing parts also. I'm unable to open under W7Pro/MSPP2007. MS Powerpoint viewer opens it fine. Environment: Platform: Personal computer AMD Phenom II X4 970 3.5GHz 8G Ram Operating system: 64bit Windows 7 Ultimated Edition SP1 Open Office Impress version: OOo-dev 3.4.0 DEV300m106(Build:9582) Microsoft Office PowerPoint version: MS-PowerPoint 2010 Plus Steps taken: 1. Open OOo to Impress. 2. Create a new presentation in the presentation wizard. 3. On the initial slide provided, insert the title and some text. 4. Apply some custom animation to those texts. 5. Add more slides and apply more animation. 6. Show these slides. 7. Finish the show and click on file->save as. 8. Select the format: Microsoft PowerPoint 97/2000/XP. 9. Save the slides. 10. Use Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 Plus to open the file just saved. Result of this test: The result of opening the saved ppt file in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 Plus is failed. Error message says that: PowerPoint cannot open the file. Created attachment 76852 [details]

Opens but crashes PPT 2007 when click activates animation.
I have a few small details to contribute to this discussion. My environment: Windows 7 (64 bit) PowerPoint 2007 OOo-dev 3.4.0 DEV300m106 (Build:9582) 1) Although the file provided in Comment 3 produces the error message "PowerPoint can't open /file/ because part of the file is missing" as expected on my Windows 7 box (64 bit) and PowerPoint 2007, I opened that file just fine with OOo-dev 3.4.0 DEV300m106 (Build:9582) Impress. I then used Impress to re-save that file as a new name, also in PPT format, and that re-saved version opened just fine in PowerPoint 2007. I used WinMerge 2.12.4.0 to diff the re-saved version from the original, and there were file format differences. Unfortunately, I don't read PowerPoint binary files, so I can't interpret further. I attempted to attach the re-saved version of the file, but it is too big for the upload limits. 2) When I began a slide show of the re-saved file, clicking slowly to activate the various animations, PowerPoint crashed with an unhandled exception error at the point where the slide show should have brought in the boxed image on Slide2. Twice in a row. 3) I followed the new replication steps in Comment 9 using DEV300m106 Impress to create some files and open them in PowerPoint 2007.[footnote at end of post] Following Comment 9's replication instructions: * 1 animation (title slide) -- file opened in PowerPoint 2007 and ran in slide show mode just fine * 2 animations (one on next slide) -- file opened in PowerPoint 2007 and ran in slide show mode just fine * 3 animations (one on third slide) -- file opened in PowerPoint 2007 and crashed PowerPoint with an unhandled exception when the first click was sent to the slide show. Twice. I have attached the 3-animations version of my test, see Comment 12.[footnote2] 4) I am able to open in PowerPoint 2007 both the files attached in Comments 10 and 11, and both play slide shows completely through. ---- [footnote]: (In passing, I observe that the animation selections I selected in Impress didn't transfer exactly accurately to the saved file format, as they didn't behave the same way upon opening the file in either PowerPoint 2007 or Impress. I thought I got Boomerang effect when I'd had Bounce originally, but as I pursued finding a pattern there, I got lost.) [footnote2]: (In my Animate3 file, the effects I selected initially (while in Impress) were Bounce for the Title Page text and Fly-In (not Fly-In Slow) for the line on each of slides 2 and 3. I'm not familiar enough with all the effects to identify which ones I'm seeing instead.) |
