Description davidjprokopetz 2010-12-27 07:11:54 UTC
When exporting PDFs from ODG files containing drawing elements with radial
transparency gradients, intermittent issues with the transparency in the
resulting PDF were observed: the affected elements fade to solid black, totally
obscuring whatever lies behind them, rather than fading to the desired
transparency level.

I'm not 100% certain what's triggering the problem; it seems to affect some, but
not all, elements with radial transparency in any given file. However, I've
managed to construct a sample file that illustrates both the issue and the
inconsistent nature of it (only three out of four transparent elements are
affected). Both the sample file and the resulting PDF output are attached.

This issue was observed in both the current stable release (OOO320m18). When I
tried it with the current dev snapshot (DEV300m95) instead, the "fade to black"
issue was absent, but the output was difficult to evaluate because the
transparent regions of the drawing elements didn't align correctly with their
outlines.

For reference, I'm running Windows XPSP3 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.100427-1636)
and viewing with Adobe Reader 9.3.0.

The export of gradient transparency is wrong, if a JPEG compression with a
percent quality is used, even it is 100%. There is no error, if looseless
compression is used and there is no error, if a uniform transparency is used.
I'll attach a test file and its export to pdf with 100% compression.

The error is not in the transparency but in the edges and the resolution.

I have used DEV300m95 on WinXP.

Problem of black export is fixed in OOO330_m18 but non-fitting filling still
remains. Reassigned.
