Inserting external data into a ooCalc spreadsheet does not work.  The "OK" 
button remains disabled regardless of what input file you are trying to 
insert.  I have tried .txt files, and .swx files.  The background importer does 
recognize the source data, and displays the import dialog that lets you choose 
the text delimiter and preview the columns of data, but the final "OK" button 
is disabled which prevents you from inserting the external data into the 
spreadsheet.
