Description mitchpeter 2011-03-22 04:25:03 UTC
I have recently downloaded Open Office.org 3.3. (Open Office.org 3.3.0 OOO330m20 Build:9567). It does not list my scanner in the list of available scanners when I attempt to insert a picture (Alt I-U-S-S). The scanner should appear as

Mikrotek ScanModule 2.0 (32-32)

Only one scanner - OVT Scanner 1.0(32-32) - appears in the list.

The Mikrotek scanner appears in other programs running at the same time as OO. It also appears in OOO 3.2.1.

Does this only happen in Writer or also in Calc or Drawing/Impress component of OOo?
Comment 2 mitchpeter 2011-03-22 12:56:02 UTC
The problem happens in Writer, Impress, and Draw. Calc does not have the option to get a picture from a scanner (only from a file), and I haven't got far enough into the database to try.

Please check first that you have the latest microtek drivers for win7 (64 bit I guess).
Which scanner do you have?
I couldn't find a "ScanModule" in the latest downloads at Microtek.

The scanner is a Scanmaker 3630, and the latest drivers on the Microtek site are for Windows XP. I am running 32 bit Windows 7. I do not suspect the drivers, although they are old, because OOo3.2.1 finds and uses the scanner OK, as does IrfanView. Uninstalling OOo3.3 and reinstalling OOo 3.2.1 fixes my problem. But it is the _wrong_ way to fix it.
Comment 5 eric.savary 2011-03-22 15:47:40 UTC
@pjm: maybe an incompatibility or a "hick-up" on both side (OOo 3.3 *and* your XP drivers on Win 7)?
Try to uninstalling the drivers, re-install OOo 3.3 and re-install your drivers.

@WG: Please have a look. Thanx!

Uninstalling the scanner and reinstalling made no difference to whether OOo3.3 could see the driver or not.Installing OOo first or second also made no difference. I tried installing the latest drivers from Microtek, but these did not work at all - they could not find the scanner. Both old and new drivers are for XP and the install exe file needed to be run in compatibility mode.
I am back to using the original drivers and OOo 3.2.1. At least this combination works OK.
