Description simon.stockman 2011-04-14 15:47:38 UTC
I'm a PM for Oracle currently deploying a large Windows and Solaris VDI based Solution to 9000+ users.
We are using Sun Fire X2270 M2 Servers.

For this bug, we are running MS Windows 2008 R2 WindowsTerminal Server with Open Office 3.2.0 OOO320m12 (Build:9483) although we have reproduced this on a test bed running OpenOffice 3.3 (build 9567).

This appears to be an issue with OpenOffice running on a 64bit platform. The error cannot be reproduced on a 32 Bit platform (Either XP or Windows 7)

The test involves saving to the Desktop (this isn't allowed as the desktop is locked down), and how the failure is then handled.

In OpenWriter you get a prompt asking "Would you like to save to the My Documents folder instead?". Saying "Yes" to this causes the file to be saved to that folder.

In OpenCalc you get a slightly different prompt. When testing as user fred, you get the message "Would you like to save to the fred folder instead?". You say "Yes" and get an error saying this isn't allowed. You clear down the error message. But then you can indeed still proceed to save to the requisite My Documents by selecting it from the list of folders displayed to the left of the Save As dialog box.

THAT HAVING BEEN SAID - why does Writer state "My Documents" and Calc state the username folder? Is this causing the problem? Is there some difference in OpenOffice?
Is the "username" string actually just an illegal folder name populated from some incorrect parameter?

Further testing has been conduced as follows:

I have now been able to reproduce this error on a clean Windows Server 2008R2 build. This appears to be an issue with OpenOffice running on a 64bit platform. The error cannot be reproduced on a 32 Bit platform (Either XP or Windows 7)

I have tested as follows:

    * Built Windows 2008R2 Server and fully patched.
    * Created a test user
    * Created a test folder and denied test user write permission (granted read)
    * Installed OpenOffice 3.2.0 (build 9483)
    * Opened Writer
          o Attempted to save to test folder and was asked to save to My Documents Instead
          o Sucessfully redirected to My Documents
    * Opened Calc
          o Attempted to save to test folder and was asked to save to TEST instead
          o Was redirected to user profile folder which is what causes errors in the BSF build because we are using mandatory profiles and the user only has restricted access.

I updated my test platform to OpenOffice 3.3 (build 9567) and observed the same behaviour.
I have also checked this on becw021 with an unrestricted account and the same behaviour can be observed.

I would like the "save as" behaviour to be consistent with all Open Office Apps such that Calc mimics writer.

Many thanks

Regards

Simon
