This docx contains a textbox which disappears in openoffice

If you create a docx with a textbox, openoffice isn't able to display the page with the textbox

getting rid of value "enhancement" for field "severity".
For enhancement the field "issue type" shall be used.

I recreated this behavior on a Windows 7 machine using the example .docx file.

When using Open Office Writer 3.4.1 Build:9593 - Rev. 1372282 to open the supplied "Textbox.docx" file, there was no text box displayed on page 2.

When opening the supplied file with Word 2007 (12.0.6661.5000) SP3 MSO (12.0.6662.5000), the textbox on page 2 did show up.

When I created my own .docx document with Word, the same behavior was observed. Textboxes created in Writer documents loaded without error in both Writer and Word.

It was not obvious how to add a Text Box with Writer – these are the steps I used:
1) Open a new document
2) Click on the “Show Draw Functions” icon
3) Click on the “Text” icon in the Draw Functions Toolbar that appeared at the bottom of the screen
4) Drag the cursor to create the text box

I can confirm this behaviour on docx files being sent to me.

If a docx file contains a textbox, neither the textbox, nor the text within it, is displayed when opening the docx file in OOo3.4.1.

Observed behaviour
1 Neither text box, nor text within it, is displayed
2 File > Properties > Statistics > Word count = 0
3 Navigator shows the document is empty, and Text Frames = 0.

Expected behaviour
1 Both text box, and text within it, should be displayed
2 File > Properties > Statistics > Word count should count the words
3 Presumably Navigator should show Text Frames = 1????

A workaround to display the textbox and text is to open the docx (it works on the attachment above) in Microsoft Works wordprocessor or Microsoft Office Word Viewer proving the textbox and text are present.

I can upload examples of docx files if required.

docx file with textboxes containing images - images do not display
Comment 6 John 2014-08-22 14:51:33 UTC
There are numerous reports on the forum of text and images not being visible in .docx files - for example Writer doesn't display images in docx file textbox at https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=71775 (CEM file attached above).

I believe this to be a particularly severe problem because Writer gives no indication that content is not being displayed.

Is it possible for Writer to display an error message when it cannot understand tags in docx files so that the user knows data is missing.

Something like "textbox tag not recognised 27" meaning 27 occurrences of textbox have been ignored.

This is issue can be related to OOXML Markup Compatibility (see https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/OOXML/Markup_Compatibility_and_Extensibility and https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg482166.aspx)

The missing text box is wrapped in <mc:AlternateContent> section and probably it is not imported. So far, I am not sure if the import does have this feature implemented.
