In "Version" list I could not find "OOo 3.4" and was forced to choose "OOo 3.4 beta"

Apache OpenOffice 3.4.0 (Final) AOOO340m1 (Build 9590) - Rev. 1327774 Russian UI/Locale on Russian Windows XP Professional SP3 (32bit)

In Apache OpenOffice 3.4.0 (Final) there is no comments (notes) in document at all.

In other office suites:
- MS Office 2007 SP3 (all fine)
- LibreOffice 3.5.3.2 (Final) Russian UI/Locale
Build-ID: 235ab8a-3802056-4a8fed3-2d66ea8-e241b80 (all fine)

Sorry for my poor English.

Comments in OO Writer and Microsoft Word

I was able to replicate this bug on Windows 7 Professional (Build 7601: Service Pack 1) using OpenOffice version 4.0.1 [Branch AOO401m5 Build: 9714 (Rev. 1524958)].

I opened the RTF document provided by Timon with OpenOffice Writer and noticed that the comments in the document was missing. I then tried to open the same RTF document with Microsoft Word (Microsoft Office Professional 2010) and found the missing comments appeared in the document.

I also tried the following steps to replicate the bug.
1. Open the OpenOffice Writer
2. Add some text into the document
3. Add some comments by going to the Insert menu and select the Comments option
4. Save the document in Rich Text Format (.rtf)
5. The OpenOffice Writer will ask for a confirmation, select Keep Current Format option
6. Close the document
7. Now try to open the document again with OpenOffice Writer, all comments are gone…
8. Now try to open the same document with Microsoft Word, all comments are there…

To demonstrate this issue even further…
9. Try reopening this document with OpenOffice Writer, add some new comments, hit save button, and then close the document
10. Now try to open this document with Microsoft Word, the new comments are there, but all old comments were gone presumed to be discarded during the saving… (not to mention that there is no comment at all if you open this document again with OpenOffice Writer)

I further investigated this issue and noticed that the Comments option under the View menu in OpenOffice Writer was disabled, while you can toggle the comments view in Microsoft Word, suggesting that OpenOffice Writer completely ignore the comments information in the RTF document (please see the attachment).

Note: This bug should really get fixed. If people did not know that their comments and notes were discarded during saving, they will lose their previous comments and notes forever and would unavoidably feel really frustrated with OpenOffice product.

This bug was also being discussed in bug #118571
