Document with 8.5" x 5.5" page size

I have odt documnents created in OO 3.2.1 that have a 'custom' page size of 8.5" x 5.5" - in the "new" print (with mini preview) interface they always revert to A4 (or the last used standard page size). If I go into the printer (Cannon MG6250) properties and reinstate the custom size, it is "forgotten" as soon as I try and print again.

My only solution after much head scratching and cursing is to reinstall 3.2.1 and everything then works as it should.

I am sure that this fault originated in the release of OO 3.3 with the much heralded "New Easier to Use Print Interface" - so rather surprised it is still not fixed. Anyone that has to produce copy for specific but non "standard" page sizes will have an insurmountable problem. For that reason I have tagged this as a 'major' bug.

Hi, thanks for looking at this - I should have added that the problem does NOT occur when printing to PDF, only when printing to paper via printer. The same problem was experienced with my previous printer (Cannon MP640) so not specific to my current model, although maybe to Cannon W7 print drivers?

I have only printed to PDF from the internal OO PDF printer though, not through a 3rd party PDF driver.

The problem exhibits in the print preview window in the "new" OO print dialogue, which shows the paper size that will be used.

I cannot find the PrimoPDF attachment mentioned by the way?

Thanks for attachment - it is standard A5 size though (5.83" x 8.27") - whereas it should be 5.5" x 8.5" which is the custom page size in the ODT file.

I used a ruler to measure the document on screen as I have no access to a physical printer.
Sorry for being inaccurate in my measurement - I reopen the bug.

Thanks - I really appreciate you taking the time to look into this. If it helps I just installed LibreOffice 4 and the problem is still present in that too.

It definitely started with the "enhanced" print dialogue introduced in 3.3
3.2.1 has the old dialogue and all is well (with the same physical printers).

Thanks again for reopening.

PostScript file, from "Print to file" with 3.2.1

Open the file with a text editor.

%%Page: 1 1
%%PageOrientation: Portrait
%%PageBoundingBox: 18 18 378 594
%%BeginPageSetup
%
[{
%%BeginFeature: *PageSize Statement
<</PageSize [396 612] /ImagingBBox null>> setpagedevice
%%EndFeature
} stopped cleartomark
%%EndPageSetup

The page size is set to [396 612] that is 5.5'' x 8.5'' (in PostScript 1 point = 1/72 inch)

PostScript file, from "Print to file" with 3.4.1

Page size is A5, not the user defined one.

It might be connected to the problems discussed in bug 113562 and bug 115694.

Bug 113562 comment 12 and Bug 117267 comment 12 seems to indicate that when the user defined paper size is not advertised by the printer, OpenOffice tries to match the user defined paper size with one of the paper sizes the printer does advertise.

nigelharpur says in the bug description that he sets the custom size on the printer, so it seems a different bug.

@nigelharpur : is your printer advertising the custom paper size to other applications?

Well, the only other application I have to test this with currently is my re-installed OO 3.2.1 and all works perfectly with that. I do have MS WordPad as part of W7 so I will try and replicated the situation by saving from OO as a .doc and opening/printing with WordPad. Will advise.

Wordpad was a no starter - so I downloaded the Portable version of Abiword. It opened the ODT and displayed it correctly in it's print dialogue as having a "custom" size of 8.5" x 5.5" - The Cannon printer driver preview pane also displayed correctly - so yes the printer is definitely advertising the custom paper size to other applications. Abiword Portable is available here: http://portableapps.com/apps/office/abiword_portable

Dear all that have looked at this; has there been any progress with a fix yet? Am wanting to go to OO v4 now it's released, but no point if the custom page size problem is unresolved. Hoping this 'additional comment' does go to all on the CC list.
Comment 15 nigelharpur 2013-08-01 13:14:25 UTC
Hopefully now added Ariel to the CC list.
