When you place an image on a slide it creates a placeholder on the slide. In Impress 2 you could then highlight that image by mouse clicking on it then go Insert>Picture>From File and open a new file and insert it over top of the old image. But in v 3.4.1 it opens it as a new image in the center of the slide instead which becomes a royal pain because the you have to delete the old image and move and resize the new one to replace the old one.

Confirmed on a 4.0 developer build and Windows7.

The behavior if Insert in the case a picture/image/graphic/bitmap (or how you call it) is selected is inconsistent between the modules and not as users expect. I collect all those complains in bug 12891.

You can workaround the problem, when you drag the new picture from the file manager and drop it onto the selected picture.
