Draw an object with single color fill.
Goto Format > Area, tab transparency.

From the drop-down list chose item "Square". The drawn gradient is that kind of gradient, which is called "rectangular" in file format. The UI should use the same name, "rectangular" or "rectangle" but not "square", which is apparently false.

From the drop-down list chose item "Quadratic". The drawn gradient is that kind of gradient, which is called "square" in file format.

Switch to tab gradient and look how the color gradients are named. You will find "Square" and "Rectangular".

The transparency gradients should use the same names as the color gradients for the same kind of gradients.

ALG: Indeed, the naming scheme is different between gradient fills and gradient for transparency. The last two are (1st fill, 2nd transparency) 'Square' -> 'Quadratic', 'Rectangular' -> Square'. Onl ynames are different, functionality is mapped correctly.

This is the same all the time in the Fill style dialog, thus not a new error in the sdiebar, thus a very old inconsitency. Should be cleaned up, but not now. Transparency names and values are exactly as in in the area tab page for transparency.

Grepping for later
