Example of issue.

If there are line breaks in a cell in a MS Excel file, OpenOffice Calc will repeat the content when opening the file. (Please see attachment.)

Can not reproduce with Excel 2007 and Calc Rev. 1507307.
Comment 2 Richard Cheung 2014-09-25 09:30:51 UTC
I am also having this issue with OpenOffice Calc when opening some Microsoft Excel spreadsheet files in xlsx format.

When I used LibreOffice Calc to open the same file, this issue did not appear.

I cannot share the file that with this issue because of data policy.

I hope the development team can review this issue again.
Comment 3 mroe 2014-09-25 10:46:52 UTC
If you have access to Excel please delete or overwrite all confidential content and attach the sample .xlsx file. Otherwise nobody can replicate the issue.
Comment 4 mroe 2014-09-25 10:47:55 UTC
Additional: please name the correct AOO version and your operating system.
Comment 5 Richard Cheung 2014-09-25 16:30:30 UTC
The operating system is Mac OS X 10.9

I have experienced this issue since OpenOffice 4. I have tried OpenOffice 3.4.1 on the same machine and it did not have this issue to the same Excel file.

Sorry that I do not have access to Excel and I do not know which version of Excel was used to create that file.
Comment 6 Richard Cheung 2014-12-02 11:47:23 UTC
Hi,

I am experiencing the same issue again with another MS Excel file with xlsx format.

I can prepare a xlsx format file for OOO team to test against OpenOffice after X'mas.

Again, the issue only appear on OpenOffice v4 or above. LibreOffice 4 or above, the latest iWork Numbers and MS Office Excel all have no problem with that xlsx file.

Stay tuned.

xlsx file showing cells with line breaks with repeating values

The attached file was generated from PHPExcel.
Looking at cell B1 as an example: The cell's correct value (as can be seen in MS Office Excel, is:
Q2
[Three bears on a treadmill]

There is a line break after 'Q2'.

Opening with Open Office Calc version 4.1.1 the cell displays:
Q2
[Three bears on a treadmill]Q2
[Three bears on a treadmill]

It seems that when there is a line break, the cell repeats it self once per 16 rows existing in the excel. Had the excel 48 rows the cell would repeat 4 times:
Q2
[Three bears on a treadmill]Q2
[Three bears on a treadmill]
Q2
[Three bears on a treadmill]Q2
[Three bears on a treadmill]

menu.xlsx file opened in LibreOffice Version: 4.3.5.2

You can see that LibreOffice display the cell content below column E which contains Traditional Chinese characters are all correct without duplication.

text repeated in multiple cells from *.xlsx file (*.xls OK)

Spreadsheet created under macOS Sierra Version 10.12.5 using Excel for MAC Version 15.32 Product ID 02984-001-000001
Spreadsheet viewed using Windows 10 and OO Calc 4.1.3 (latest version)

This is a rather complex spreadsheet with both hidden and protected cells. There are a total of 1,053 formulae and only 7 cells with text.

The default *.xlsx file, when loaded into OO Calc, duplicates the text in the first three text cells. Everything else is fine. If the file is saved in *.xls format from Excel, there are no issues – all fields are displayed correctly with OO Calc. I have viewed the problem *.xlsx file with the MS Excel viewer and it displays correctly. So the file seems sound.

Text is defined in these 7 cells, with OO Calc duplicating the text for the first 3 cells:
C1: Enter Solution digits below
O1: # of digit choices for each Column
AQ3: Knockout: Any digit (or text) below will knock out the corresponding digit in Choice
A21: (displays correctly)
A31: (displays correctly)
K32: (displays correctly)
Q32: (displays correctly)

Reviewing the Bugzilla list, Issue 123022 seems similar, but I am not convinced it identifies the same problem.

Of note, previous versions of this *.xlsx file did not exhibit this problem, so it may have something to do with the size/complexity of the spreadsheet.

In this issue, it is about cell having *line breaks*.

In my Issue 127312, there's no line break.

Could someone reopen my issue, please?

Lapsap,

Thank you for reporting. I can confirm your statements.
Openening the Files will cause Open Office to dublicate content, while Libre is not doing the same.

I think the root case is not Color or Line brake. It is an import error from the File causeing this behaviour.

I checked with AOO 4.1.2 on Linux (Arch Linux), 4.1.3 on Windows (10). Compared with the behaviour of Libre 5.1

I set this bug to confirm respectivly.

Which file have you tried? Have you tried my file in my issue? I think my file is smaller and thus easier to debug with because I've spent much time to reduce it to the minimum.

yes I have checked against your Report (the dublicate bug), because it is striped down to the Problem.
