Hi people,

what the hell have you made with version 4.0.1????

Brief explanation. YESTERDAY I prepared a quite complex spreadsheet with calc, all perfect. Several nice calculations and charts.

TODAY: I downloaded and installed 4.0.1 as suggested by the update wizard.

I open up my spreadsheets, and .... SURPRISE SURPRISE: every single cell with a formula contains now a nice label "err:509". Of course nothing was changed during the night! Formulas are still there. You can also try starting a blank workshit, place a two in cell A1, place a four in cell B1 and then place a "=A1+B1" in cell C1 and you get a nice err:509! Congratulations!

Oh my Goodness! I am desperate!

I will try to fetch and reinstall 4.0.0 if still available.

Please test the software before releasing!

Reproducible with "AOO 4.0.1 RC3 – German UI / German locale [Rev. 1524958 2013-09-20 11:40:29]" on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", “historic” 4.0 User Profile used for all predecessor versions

Not a valid bug report!

@spreafab:
Thank you for your feedback – unfortunately important information we will
need to reproduce your problem is missing (see <http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/QA/HowToFileIssue>)
Please add all information requested in following:
b) Attach a sample document
d) Attach screenshots with comments if you believe that that might explain the
problem better than a text comment. Best way is to insert your screenshots
into a DRAW document and to add comments that explain what you want to show
f) add information
f3) concerning your PC (video card, ...)
f4) concerning your Operating System (Version, Language)
f5) concerning your AOO version (with Build/revision ID if it's not a
public release) and localization (UI language, Locale setting)
f6) AOO settings that might be related to your problems
     (video hardware acceleration)
f7) how you launch AOO and how you opened the sample document
f8) Whether your problem persists when you renamed your user profile
(Quit Quickstart before!) before you launch AOO (please see
     <http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/3.4.1.html#AOO3.4.1ReleaseNotes-KnownIssues>)

Even if you can not provide all demanded information, every little new information might bring the breakthrough.

Thank you for your assistance.

Effectively, deleting all the profiles (actually, uninstalling 4.0.1, deleting all the AppData Directories belonging to OpenOffice, cleaning up the register for all the OpenOffice keys with CCleaner) and re-installing 4.0.0 (fortunately I still had the downloaded installer) took me back to the previous condition: all my calc files are now perfect, I have my charts and I have not completely lost all my job (actually at least two hours for this problem).

I am very sorry, and you can consider mine an "invalid bug report". I told you how I solved my problem (and I am very sorry, I cannot make all the things you would want to have this being a "valid" report). You can just skip to consider it, but be warned that 4.0.1. can make weird things at least on some installations. Be prepared to other complaints, I fear.

Best regards

FS

@spreafab:
"Valid" simply means that info required to reproduce the problem is available.

For now let's hope that you were the victim of a unique bad luck particular circumstances, whatever - bad things happen. But of curse it might be that there is a real OOo bug. If you have time and nerves (and the security of successfull fallback to 4.0.0 it would be great if you could do a second attempt after you checked your installation file with md5 checksum and so on ...

If there is any small chance to get the problem reproducible for a developer, of course we will follow up your report - especially if we get similar reports.

I will leave the "needinfo" keyword for bureaucratic reasons.

Same problem here. Previous version 4.1.??, new version 4.2.1. I use Open Office for quite some years, so this might not be related to specific version 4.1.?? but to previous releases (registry settings or old files?). The machine where this problem occurs had Win 7 once, has been upgraded to Windows 10 about 2 months ago. After upgrading Win 7 to Win 10 this error did not occur, when I upgraded OO to 4.1.2 it did. The problem shows everytime the calculation is more difficult than simply refering to another field: =A1 works fine, =A1+B1, =-A1+B1 and =sum(A1:A2) all result in 509-errors. The fields A1, A2 and A3 have numbers as a type. When I use the same ods as I uploaded here on another machine (f.e. Windows 10, previous version was Win 8.1, OO installed after migrating to Win 10) the ods works fine. I will leave the problem-machine as it is, so if you have any questions please ask them and I will try to help you figure out what is happening here.

By accident I found out what is going on: when I upgraded, the language was set to English and also the local settings were set to English (I may have done this myself, cannot remember this anymore). The original settings were Dutch/Dutch. This caused the 509-errors. When I put back the language and the local settings back to Dutch, the 509-errors disappeared. It would be nice if these settings could be change without causing the 509-errors.

Solved with profile resetting.
