Hi, For some reason I thought this issue was hyphnation related. It does not apear to be at all. I can recreate the problem and a space before the 3 periods (an ellipsis) seems to help but this really seems like a breakiterator issue of some sort. Since that is outside the lingucomponent project I am reassigning this to the sw project in the hopes that someone there can look at this. Thanks, Kevin Hi Thomas, Can you please take a look at how the code that terminates the line (see his example and then page 46 of the attached document) and notice that the closing smart quote in the line remembered not to laugh..." somehow gets moved to start the next line unless a space is inserted between laugh and the .... is this a breakiterator issue? Thanks, Kevin note that also forms. produces problems a the end of a line... it is hyphenated as "form" and "-s" I'm not sure if this belongs here, or is in a different category. Hi, So there is a hyphnation issue also? I searched your document and I could not find one instance of "forms" improperly hyphenated. Would you please create a new Issue specific to hyphenation and assign it to me (khendricks@openoffice.org and the lingucomponent project) and include an attachment that shows the problem (please specify the page and line number if it is a large document). I will try to see why "forms" is being improperly hyphenated in that new issue and we can keep this issue related to where the smart double quote after multiple punction ends up with the "sw" project since that is their area. Thanks, Kevin additional example: "Jung's mind" at end of sentence, hyphenated as: quote Jun- g's mind. unquote i sense that this is on it's way to resolution, and may be the same as 13095 after all. for the record I'm now considering this as definitely a separate item from the hyphenation problem (13095), and noting that i'm having more and more instances of it, since i'm working with many files, in the editing of two books, and I have numerous instances of closing " dropping to the next line. the example reported before probably gives the best clue of what is going on quote laugh..." unuqote Hi, Adding Thomas Lange as CC to this one. Perhaps he will know what is going on here and can tell us if this issue needs to be redirected in some way. Kevin Hi Thomas, Will you please take a look at the first problem of this issue for me and let me know which project or who I should redirect this to. It seems OOo writer will sometimes put an ending quote on a new line if it follows a string of punction (such as an ellipsis or 3 periods). The secondary problems with hyphenation have all been moved to another issue and I have fixes for them in my tree that I will commit once the new hyphnation dictionary for en_US is approved for committing. Thanks, Kevin Reassigned to MRU. I have seen this problem repeatedly, and it has nothing to do with unusual punctuation. It happens with ANY punctuation (period, comma, etc.). If you end a sentence with: period close-quote the close quote will be dropped to the next line if it won't fit on the current line. The alignment of the paragraph does not matter. It appears that the line break iterator is not keeping end punctuation together with the last word if there is more than one punctuation mark after the word. The problem with the close-quotes should be fixed in OO 1.1 Beta2. There was another task describing this problem. I'll have a look for the rference number if it. The problem was fixed in issue #11748. So I close this one. OO 1.1 Beta2 should arrive soon. |
