Could you try the following:

1. create a new document
2. insert a table at the very beginning of the document (number of rows&cols
don't matter)
3. insert some text AFTER the table

4. now please try to select everything with CTRL-A

The document will not be selected but just the table.

I read this at a Forum:

"Only the cell in which I last entered data is selected - that is 
all. 

If I insert another table at the bottum of the document nothing 
changes; the problem first table still is the source of trouble"

Unfortunately this issue is already known but marked as "wontfix".
