This is an idea which could enhance Impress. Currently most churches today use
PowerPoint to display songs on a screen. This is okay but an attendant has to
always advance the screen. I know with MP3's it is possible to include
timestamps in a text file of lyrics that enable karaoke to be viewed and played.
My vision is that Ogg Vorbis music files (xiph.org) could be sync'ed with time
stamped Impress files to make screen advances automatic. This wouldn't be
something that would only be used by churches. It could be used as a better
karaoke display, it could be used for trade shows where a presentation is
looped, it could be used for instructional files so both visual and audio
instruction is provided. There are certainly other uses. This would likely add
greater capability while building on the existing open source technologies.
Also it would add a feature that Powerpoint doesn't have :)
