Issue Type: DEFECT Latest Confirmation in: 4.0.1
Developer Difficulty: ---

Description mmelchior 2003-07-27 13:09:01 UTC
New document, bring up 'Find & Replace' dialogue, click 'Attributes...' or
'Format...', cancel the new dialogue, click Help. This does not give the
expected 'Find & Replace' help text, but the text for the Attributes or Format
dialogue. Only when there was some other activity in the 'Find & Replace'
dialogue the correct help text is presented. Since the Attributes and Format
dialogues each have their own Help button, the above behaviour is undesired.

this is not bug this is a feature.
if you call help the content of help will show the helpcontent of the
dialog entry you selected.
just click on "regular expression" in the find and replace dialog and
call help. the help will open with the regular expression content. so
if you leave the "Attributes"-dialog, the "Attributes"-button ist
still selected and the help just calls the help of the function of
this button.

You call it a feature, I call it a mis-feature....!

If I click a Help button, I want help for the dialog that presented that
Help button. I do not want Help for the dialog that is associated with
default button at that moment, I just want the Help for the current
dialog!

Please let it behave like people expect, do not use overly clever things
to help people, I get annoyed by such behavoir.

Please reconcider.......!

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".

I was able to replicate the issue on both XP & Windows 7 OS. I've included further details in an effort to assist with the next steps.

Configuration Information

OS: MS Windows 7
OpenOffice.org 3.4.1
OOO341m1 Build 9593

and

OS: MS XP Professional Version 2002
OpenOffice.org 3.3
OOO330m20 Build 9567

Steps to Reproduce

1. Open a new Writer document (from Start > Programs or right-click > New >OpenDocument Text)
2. Select Ctrl-F to open Find & Replace dialog window
3. Select "More Options" arrow and it provides more search options.
4. Select "Attributes" button and an Attributes dialog window displays
5. Select "Cancel" button and the focus is back on the Find and Replace dialog window
6. Select "Help" button
7. The Attributes help text displays
The Reporter expectations - Find and Replace help text displays
8. Close help text and Find and Replace windows
9. Repeat steps 2-6 but select "Format" button in place of "Attributes" in step 4
10. The Text Format (Search) help text displays
The Reporter expectations - Find and Replace help text displays

Additional Tests Executed

1. Executed same steps as above but using the Edit>Find and Replace option from the toolbar rather than Ctrl-F with same results
2. Verified the Find and Replace help text displays correctly without selecting "More Options" drop down
3. Verified the Find and Replace help text displays correctly after selecting "More Options" drop down but not
selecting the Attributes or Format buttons
4. Individually tested the selection of each of the checkboxes under the "More Options" drop down (without selecting Attributes or Format button first) to verify the correct help text displays.

My Findings
• I find this to be expected behavior and not an issue or enhancement that needs to be made. The help text that displays depends on what button or field is retaining the focus. After selecting “More Options” and either selecting the Attributes or Format button and then cancelling out of that window, you can see the focus is still on the last button you clicked (you will see a dotted square around it). In this case, even though you cancelled out of the Attribute or Format window, the focus is still on those buttons and that is the reason the Help text for these buttons display rather than the Find and Replace Help text.

Observations/Differences I found between OO versions 3.3 & 3.4.1

• I noticed that on OO version 3.3, when you are on a particular field in the Find and Replace window and select Help button, you are directed to the exact location within the help text. For example; clicking on help button after being on “Replace with” field will bring you directly to the help text for that field. I found in OO version 3.4.1, the help text scroll bar is always at the very top of the Find and Replace help regardless of what field you are on.

• I also found that on OO version 3.4.1, when the focus is on any of the checkboxes under “More Options” such as Backwards, Regular Expressions, etc., the Help text brings you to the Find and Replace Help window rather than the Help text for those items. OO version 3.3 took me directly to the Help text for those areas.

(a) Reproducible with "AOO 4.1.0-Dev – English UI / German locale -
   [AOO410m1(Build:9750) - Rev. 1525917 - 2013-09-25]" on German WIN7 Home
Premium (64bit)", own separate user profile.
(b) Latest confirmation for AOO 4.1.0-dev, but because of incomplete LCo
selector (Bug 123063) no correct information can be left.
(c) This is a DEFECT and not an enhancement request, jack.warchold's arugments
are for a different case (for what they are correct)
(d) I see the same after having visited sub dialog 'Format'
(e) This is a bug report, because only the 'Find and Replace' dialog is affected,
    see (f), (g)
(f) this problem is not visible for 'Tools -> Spelling and grammar:
    * [Help] leads to "Spelling and Grammar"
    * After [Options] help leads to "Writing Aids"
    * After Options sub dialog has bee closed 'Spelling and Grammar' [Help]
again leads to Help for "Spelling and Grammar" (as expected)
(g) also as expected for
    Writer - Customize -> Toolbars,
Writer - Export to PDF -> Password
May be others, I did not check systematically
