Description da2ce7 2003-08-21 11:53:02 UTC
I am trying to get my church to move over to oo. One of the Biggist problems i'm
faceing is that I cannot controll the Prestation from on screen and veiw it on
the other (datashow).

Current Results: The Main Program is "INACTIVE" when in a Slide Show.
Wanted Results: For the Main Program to not me totaly "INACTIVE" and when the
selected slide changes to another it reflects to the Slide Show.

The easyist way to add this (I think) would be to. Automaticaly move to "Slides
Veiw" and make the selected slide (on the Slides Veiw) veiw on the Other Screen.

I'm sory that I cannot test it out on a U2Date version but I only have 56k modem.

To be able to do it like MS PP XP would be VERY VERY Helpfill. Thanks.

We are also using OOo impress in our church for the sunday services. For us it
would also be very helpfull to have dual screen functionality in OOo:
- select a slide on one screen to display it on the beamer
- edit slides while displaying another slide on the beamer

Workaround:
To have a simple index of the slides with the slide numbers, I wrote a macro.
The macro exports each page of the presentation as an image and imports it into
a writer table. It can be downloaded from
http://kaiserslautern.feg.de/downloads/PresentationIndex.sti

Just want to add my vote for this also for my church.
we have been using MS PowerPoint, as of now the Pastor has had me put MS
Office on 3 church computers and I was trying to explane that we can only run
it on one computer onless we buy it for the others, that is a lot of money.
So far I can replace MS word but I still need PowerPoint. Please help me on
this.
Comment 5 dldegner 2005-07-18 20:21:08 UTC
Multiple screen support is a requirement for our location. This allows the
presenter to have one display for his notes while displaying a finished
presentation to the audience. Ideally, Impress would allow the designer the
option of declaring which screen the slide would go to. This paradigm would
allow 3 or 4 screens to be controlled concurrently by the same program.
Comment 6 ajmc 2005-11-14 13:54:45 UTC
I would suggest that support be added not just for dual, but for as many
monitors as the OS will support.
Comment 7 drfrankgaillard 2005-11-24 09:03:37 UTC
Although other comments have focused on the 'presentation' issue, (and I support
these, especially the thoughts of dldegner ) I would like to add that even from
a BASIC FUNCTIONALITY point of view this issue is not just an enhancement, but
actually a 'bug'. I run two monitors at home, as do an increasing number of
people. To view a presentation in slide show mode I have to each time configure
my grafix card to switch to single monitor or mirrored monitor. The presentation
shows up on the 'other' monitor, but not in a functional way. only some of the
text and image boxes appear... randomly it appears.

Keep up the great work.

Duplicate of issue 12719?

Comment 10 clippka 2006-11-15 10:19:17 UTC
not exactly, issue 12719 implemented the support for multi monitors in impress,
but there is not yet a "presenter view". This is what issue 71505 should be
about but as this issue has more votes, I closed issue 71505 as duplicate.
Taking over this one, but currently I don't know where to get the development
resources from, anyone likes to volunteer?

If you guys would add that, your Impress software would really come very close
to perfection......
(thx in advance!)

Maybe this is a good project for Google Summer of Code 07?
Comment 16 jpickerell 2007-03-24 02:01:01 UTC
Any ETA for when this will be included on OOo? Will it be in version 2.2? The
sooner the better! We've been asking for this for years.

Thanks

Is there a way to stop a running presentation and start a new presentation
of a single page through the UNO components?

What is needed in our case is a control monitor (with the presenter
view/controller UI), a main-display out (a projector or other main monitor
displaying slide) and a "next slide" monitor that keeps one jump ahead of the
other monitors. Some have alluded to this with "as many as the OS supports"
and "3 or 4 screens to be controlled concurrently by the same program"
and I feel this is a deep need for OOo, it's what drove us to Ms__XP.
The first person to get this feature in my inbox before 2008 will get rewarded.
As I have no experience with c++ or java I cannot write or recommend myself,
else I would have.
Comment 21 clippka 2007-04-25 15:38:04 UTC
I'm happy to announce that sun provides a full time developer to add this issue
to OpenOffice.org. AF will develop this feature as a plugin, so it will be
either available in 2.3 or you will be able to install it on your 2.3 shortly
after it is released.

Comment 22 jpickerell 2007-04-25 22:23:03 UTC
That's great news!!!!! Thank you Sun!!!!

Seriously good news!

Don't forget to check issue 12719, issue 71505 and
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Impress_presenter_mode_specification
for thoughts and good ideas regarding the implementation. :D

Thanks SUN and AF!

My Church also uses Power Point and the Presenter view to allow control of
what slide is presented on the second monitor next. We have looked at OO but
without this feature can not switch to it.

This would save the Church money on office and the volunteers that put the
service presentations togther.

On the auxiliary screen, the timer/stop watch (as the general, and local, for
current page), and also a column with large icons of slides and their names is
necessary.
Comment 28 jpickerell 2007-06-29 23:01:33 UTC
Is there any way that we can track the progress on this plug-ing as it is being
worked on? That would be great!
Comment 29 groucho266 2007-09-11 11:53:26 UTC
Changed target.
Comment 30 groucho266 2007-10-29 17:34:25 UTC
I would like to announce that the implementation of the presenter view (now
known as presenter screen) has begun. Please see the announcement on GullFOSS
(http://blogs.sun.com/GullFOSS/entry/presenter_screen) for more details.
Comment 31 groucho266 2008-01-16 11:13:46 UTC
Setting target to that of CWS.
Comment 32 Martin Hollmichel 2008-01-25 17:16:48 UTC
set target to 3.0
Comment 33 kpalagin 2008-03-05 05:06:25 UTC
Andre,
are we on track for 3.0 with this issue?

Thanks a lot.
WBR,
KP.
Comment 34 groucho266 2008-03-06 09:15:00 UTC
The presenter screen is still targeted for OOo 3.0. At the moment we are about
to finish the presenterview CWS that focuses on changes in the SD project.

Work on this issue will continue in the new presenterscreen CWS.
