I'm really not sure which version of 1.1 RC I have, because it isn't reported by
the software. I'm using it on Win 98, though.

If you apply borders to a table, it reformats the cells that the borders are
being applied to (e.g., the text spacing from left, right, top, and bottom of
cell). It seems to apply the default formating that's listed in the borders menu
options.

It seems to me that setting borders should not reformat the text in the cells
themselves. Even better, you should be able to set a default format that applies
to cells that borders are being applied to (e.g., a default format applied to
bordered cells, or an option not to reformat cells).

I understand the rationale that borders being applied to cells might imply that
you want to highlight the text in those cells. But not always. Right now it has
the feel of a UI bug.

I can confirm this behaviour also with 2.3.0 on ubuntu gutsy. Attached document
has a "spacing to contents" set to 0.00, but whenever I put/change a border on a
cell, the whole line's spacing to contents is set to default (0.10cm in my case).

Is this the design (to always set spacing when adding/changing borders)?

Thanks for looking at this.

I still get this in 2.3.1 on Win XP.

I'm not sure if it is intended to be designed this way or not, but it's worth
noting that at least for me, it's not clear how to stop the cells from being
reformatted by default when borders are applied. I can't find anything in menus
or toolbars to indicate that a different style has been applied, for example--as
might be the case if there were a style for each border option that could be
changed.
