See attached example, a follow on task from issue 19682. Perhaps the thing to do
is to tackle the most common subset of the possibilities of the StyleRef field
and map the case which fits our chapter number to that field, and remain as
conversion to raw text for the edge cases of stylerefs on styles not in outline
numbering.

cmc->ama: Attached is an example that demonstrates why the word
StyleRef field is not currently converted into a writer
Document->Chapter field. Perhaps the filter should detect the most
common case and convert it when possible, or perhaps we should have an
equivalent field. I'll let you decide which way we should go.

For Q we'll implement new fields if it make sense. We've to collect
the most important missing fields and think about implementation.
Maybe we create only one new field type "command field" including a
string which has to interpreted.

I too would like to see such a field added. I have spent a day trying
to think of workarounds particularly for the ability to find the last
text on a page with a given style (paragraph or character) and also
the first text on a page with a given style (with the fallback of
searching backwards onto previous pages if missing on this page). The
primary use for this for me is in typesetting dictionaries with the
various headwords appearing in the header of a page.

Because of a shortage of resources we have to retarget this issue to OOo later.
I don't like this, but we won't be able to solve this for OOo2.0. Improvement of
field im-/export will be an important issue for the next releases.

This was marked as oo_later in 2004 (priot to OO 2.0); is there any process of reviewing the priorities?

I'd love to see this feature and afaict there is no styleref support in OO 3.0 (July 2008).
Comment 10 heiste 2008-07-28 15:34:37 UTC
I also hope, that the styleref functionalitiy will be implemented in OO 3. It's
the one missing feature that causes many professionals not to switch from
MSOffice to OO...
For this is a very old request, I'd like to see it implemented soon.
