Description banil 2003-12-03 13:51:17 UTC
There are some symbols like LEFT ARROW, RIGHT ARROW etc in various dialog boxes.
E.g. in "Text Document" "Format -> Columns..." dialog, or in "Drawing" there is
a "Format -> Text..." dialog. These are specified as SYMBOLs in corresponding
.src files. These symbols should be replaced with images which look much better.
E.g., a LEFT ARROW can replaced with image in file res/lc10152.bmp.

If changes are made in all such .src files, those changes would be huge and the
size of resources would increase. To avoid this, let the .src files have SYMBOLs
and replace those symbols by corresponding images at run time. These images
should be picked from an imagelist generated for this purpose.

Right click on a tool bar, and selecting "Configure..." gives the
dialog box for "Configuration". I have attached the "jpg" images of
the current and the proposed dialog box for the same.

The only difference between the two is that "currrent" makes use of
ARROW_UP and ARROW_DOWN symbols, whereas "proposed" makes use of the
corresponding images.

Tom, can you please reassign this one to Stella. Thanks

Hi Banil,

I am not quite sure, if your image proposal is better than the one that is
currently used. Also please note that currently StarOffice uses a different icon
set than OpenOffice.org. The good news is, that we are going to take the actual
images out of the src files and only reference them like you proposed. Then it
will be pretty easy to customize your OO.o installation with you own images (in
png format).
Nevertheless I am reassigning this issue to our icon designer to decide wheteher
your image proposal for the arrows is suitable for OO.o. Thanks for your work!

STS -> CJ: Other StarOffice dialogs use font symbols for the buttons (like the
"wizards"). Should we do the same way with the "configuration" dialog to reach
an unique look for the Office UI?

CJ: Thanks for proposing the enhancement. For OpenOffice.org 2.0 we won't change
the icons like LEFT ARROW, RIGHT ARROW etc. This might be an option for
OpenOffice.org 3.0. Changed milestone to OOo Later.
